I’m sure it was Warren Ellis who first recommended House as a shining example of the bastard protagonist, though John Rogers doesn’t remember it quite that way.
So when it came to tv here I had to check it out.
The first suprise was seeing Jesse Spencer (ex aussie soap Neighbours) in it – as spoiled rich kid Dr. Robert Chase – with an ‘ozzie’ accent no less.
The next suprise though, was just how amazingly good Hugh Laurie is as the titular (Greg) House. He’s so good he gives bastard a good, nay great name.
While every episode is full of great stories, twists and characterisations, the real standouts have to be the more House-centric ones:
- Detox – where House goes without vicodin for a week
- Three Stories – where we learn how House got the gimp leg and get our first glipse at House’s ex Stacy
- Honeymoon – the season 1 finale, where we find out more about Stacy and House. Oh, and he has to treat her new husband 😦
Season 2 of House has just started, and its shaping up to be just as good. Check it out!
