Finally got ’round to reading Syrup by Maxx Barry the other day.. and couldn’t stop reading it til I’d finished. It’s a real page turner, whipping through the story of Scat and his (mis)adventures in making himself young, rich and famous.
Ultimately the story becomes about making the perfect blend of advertisement and film, or rather an advertisment as a film.
As Douglas Rushkoff points out in The Persuaders, this has just lately been accomplished via the film Castaway, which made Federal Express the hero of the movie.
Now I’ve just got to get my hands on his next book Jennifer Government.
Oh, and if you liked So Yesterday, you’ll probably like this one too…
