Continuum 6 – Future Tense

Continuum 6: Future Tense logo

The killer robots are beating down the front door while the mutant hordes gather at the back; your emotional inhibitor is on the fritz again and your computer has started calling you “Dave”; the world outside is a burning wasteland but that’s OK, there’s an ice age right around the corner; so climb into your nutrient tank and get comfy – it’s going to be a lovely apocalypse.

A mere six months later and, as promised, another Continuum is ready to go.

Hands up who loves jumping straight into organising another Con a week after the previous one finished?   Apparently, me..  I liked it so much I used it as an opportunity to go from stalking Mark Pesce to having an excuse to hang out in ‘reality’.

That’s right, he’s our Guest of Honour, along with Aurealis Award winning author Kim Westwood.  Two fine local guests ready to talk about the future, the End Times (TM) and the iSingularity.

Not only is my Guest Liaison hat firmly on again, but apparrently I didn’t get crazy enough last time and they’re once more letting me sitting on panels.

This time it’s:

  • SF TV is so Mainstream
With shows like Lost, Heroes and Flash Foward (to name a few) playing prime time slots on TV, is SF becoming mainstream?  Is it now cool to watch SF TV or will the genre continue to be geeky and relegated to the late-night slot?
  •

  • Utopias are really dystopia
Is there really such a thing as a utopian scoeity?  Just about every utopia ever created has collapsed and disintegrated.  Why does this happen?  What stops us from creating a true utopia?
  •

  • Ten reasons why the world should/should not end in 2012
Mayan tradition statesthat the world will end in the year 2012.  Our team of experts debate the topic of why the world as we know it should or shouldn’t end in the year 2012
  •

  • The thinly disguised Dollhouse panel
Whedon-esque sexbots of the perfectly groomed thoughtapocalyse or genre mashing vixens of the cliched plot machine..  hurry, before this panel, too, gets cancelled.
  •

Should be fun!  The insanity begins tomorrow.
