thoughts on Continuum4

Over Easter I went to my first Con (Conjure). I had a cool time, made some new friends and got to hang out a bit with Cory Doctorow and Bruce Sterling. This past weekend I went to my second Con, Continuum4, where Charles Stross was the guest of honour.

For some reason I thought that Conjure was a small Con, so I was suprised to find that Continuum4 is even smaller. And its largely the same peepz that were at Conjure – which I now learn is a nat-con (national convention). Ok, so it’s starting to make sense to me. And I’m learning con-lingo. Like SMOF.

I did talk to Charles Stross. And get to ask him some questions. And get my book signed.

I also took away a few things.

my detailed notes from Continuum4

Like this whole Mundane SF movement – which I hadn’t heard of previously. Ditto the Vannevar Bush article.

And I liked Stross’s characterization of Corporations as sociopathic, semi-fascist organisations. It was kinda funny.

So, yeah. Another Con down. I’ll keep watchin’ the skies and see what’s on the con-horizon.
